The SE-PostgreSQL team released their first full version today based on Postgres 8.2.4. Apparently it’s not a holiday in Japan where the primary contributors live.
SE-PostgreSQL is an interesting effort to combine the policies and controls of SE-Linux into the database engine to extend the access controls of the OS. It’s designed to limit what all users are capable of, including the built-in administrator user.
I’ve been spending a lot of time researching the PCI DSS and we’re considering SE-PostgreSQL as one component of our solution. It’s still new but an interesting project to keep an eye on for Postgres shops.
PS – Postgres is finally an officially supported database in ColdFusion 8 (both standard and enterprise). Move to the CLAP stack.
