Just returned last night from Fernley, Nevada where I took first in class and first overall on our Sunday race! The race weekend coincided with Hot August Nights. Ok, ok, so there weren’t many cars (make that, hardly any) but I successfully defended against more experienced racers. Since the track will likely change in configuration before we return, I will hold the permanent track record for this configuration running with NABR. It’s the little victories that count.
Bill Arnold and I ran neck and neck the entire weekend with our qualifying times only a couple of tenths apart. In the races we ran nose to tail lap after lap after lap. The track is pretty difficult to pass on (as evidenced by the very high number of cars pulled out of the dirt and walls this weekend)
The other highlight of the weekend were the Umbrella Girls. Jenny, Chanel and Heather gave us something to think about while sitting in the 100 degree heat on pre-grid, and for that, should be thanked profusely. I let Jenny take my racecar out during the lunchtime parade laps (under 55mph) by herself so I’ve done my part. It was strictly to thank her though, of course. Seriously. No, really.
